Singstar Goes Popworld
Sony's drunk-pleasing sing 'em up making a return this May, complete with Popworld branding
There are two types of people in this world: Those who think Sony's PS2 karaoke smash SingStar was the best thing since bacon crisps; and those who would rather stick a biro into their vocal chords than mumble into a mic when they could be playing San Andreas.
The first bunch will be trilling with glee at the news that Sony has announced a new addition to the SingStar series in the shape of SingStar Popworld, due for release on PS2 in May. The second lot should listen up - we've found that SingStar lubricated by copious amounts of funny fizzy pop is the best game ever.
Strangely enough, it's one of the few games that you get better at as you get increasingly hammered, since it measures the pitch, rhythm and tone of your singing voice.
SingStar Popworld promises a fresh new look and 30 new tracks from all your favourite teenybopper-bothering bands like Avril Lavigne, McFly, The Black Eyed Peas, Keane, and Robbie Williams.
There's a new Medley Mode that chucks short song segments at you ultra fast, and a new "Rap Scoring" feature that lets you bust some rhymes... Actually, we couldn't sum it up in more 'street' fashion than Sony itself: "Gain extra points as you battle against your crew to see who is the master of the mic with the ultimate MC showdown!"
Straight outta Compton!
But potentially the best thing about SingStar Popworld is that, as the name would suggest, it's linked in with the Popworld TV show. Crown prince of sarcastic bastardry Simon Amstell and microskirted be'atch-foil Miquita Oliver will feature in the intro movie and apparently show the game off on the telly, no doubt while surreptitiously taking the piss on an epic scale. We love you Popworld!
SingStar Popworld will be available in May and will include two microphones.
