ROBBIE WILLIAMS - Rudebox [review]

Quoted from: http://www.xpressmag.com.au

'The trend for many artists at the moment is a tendency to try something different, and this trend is reflected in Robbie William's seventh album, Rudebox. Boasting an '80s electro-pop feel, reminiscent of a more mellow Dead Or Alive or even to an extent A-ha, Rudebox takes the listener on a personal journey into the life of the controversial singer. The title track, which sounds a little like the infamous Sakata ads, starts the album but perhaps is the only real standout track from William's latest offering. Although a totally new sound and journey for Williams, this new style may deter his fans, however some tracks including She’s Madonna (a tongue in cheek ode to the Material Girl), Good Doctor and the aptly named Dickhead, shows the former boy band singer at his usual cocky self whilst teaming his vocals with a synthesiser-soaked melody.
With production credits going to the Pet Shop Boys (who contributed to the song We're The Pet Shop Boys), William Orbit and DJ Mark Ronson this album will cater to those who are either fans of the era that made Mr T and Knightrider household names or those who are after something a little bit different from the British performer. Fans of William's previous more pop oriented work may find Rudebox not to their liking.
