'Friday, 25 Nov 2005 11:42All the world's a stage apparently, and singing superstar Robbie Williams, is moving from one type to another.
The smug crooner has revealed that he is temporarily hanging up the mic to appear in a Christmas pantomime. And to prove that the LA-based singer has not forgotten his roots, he plans to do the panto in his home-town of Stoke on Trent. Kind of. The catch is that the citizens of the Potteries will not be able to get near their famous export, in person, as he will be appearing in Mother Goose via a video link-up alongside the wacky duo Ant and Dec. Robbie's best pal Jonathan Wilkes - best remembered for being a completely ineffectual presenter on You've Been Framed - is these days a stage veteran and was the driving force behind Robbie's decision to appear. Wilkes said: "As soon as Robbie knew I was doing panto, he didn't like the fact that he wasn't. I was talking about the pantomime at dinner and he said he wanted to be in it, as did Ant and Dec. "This is the first time you'll see Rob in panto. If that's not a reason to see it, I don't know what is. Robbie and I are both very proud of Stoke-on-Trent. We'll try to give a great show this Christmas." Robbie is said to have recorded his part in Bristol last month under the supervision of the panto's director.'
