Church admires words of Williams and Gallagher

Quoted from: http://contactmusic.com

'Welsh singer CHARLOTTE CHURCH has praised ROBBIE WILLIAMS and LIAM GALLAGHER for their trash-talking talents.
The teen soprano singled out FEEL hitmaker Williams and the outspoken OASIS frontman as the only celebrities close to her caliber when it comes to voicing their opinions.
The 18-year-old star says, "Everyone is too PC but I think people like me because I'm quite ballsy and say just what I think.
"No one ever says anything interesting apart from Robbie and Liam. The rest are nicey-nicey about everyone."

Beesley celebrates Williams' sobriety

Quoted from: http://contactmusic.com

'British pop singer ROBBIE WILLIAMS' newfound sobriety saved his longterm friendship with actor MAX BEESLEY.
The pair met during their teenage upbringing in the north of England, and cemented their friendship when Beesley toured as a percussionist with Williams' former boyband TAKE THAT.
But Beesley, who abandoned music to act in Hollywood movies including the MARIAH CAREY-starring GLITTER, lost touch with the ROCK DJ hitmaker, when his addictions spiralled out of control.
Of their 2001 reunion he says, "He was sober for a start. I didn't see much of him when he was drinking. I think that is one of the reasons we are such good friends now.
"I wasn't part of that culture and wasn't really around during that period of his life."
And the actor blasts the popular image of Williams as a talented depressive, insisting: "He's stronger than a lot of people think."

Williams makes peace with 50 Cent

Quoted from: http://www.contactmusic.com

'ROBBIE WILLIAMS made peace with 50 CENT after beating the hip-hop heavyweight to the Best International Male Award at Saturday night's (21JAN06) NRJ Music Awards in Cannes, France.
The TRIPPING hitmaker and CANDY SHOP rapper 50 Cent fell out when they stayed at the same German hotel last year (05) and Williams complained to the management about the noise coming from the American's room.
50 Cent later said that Robbie Williams was merely bitter because he had refused to meet him.
But Williams shook 50 Cent's hand as he made his way up to the stage to collect his prestigious gong, and said in his acceptance speech, "I also want to pay respect to Mr 50 Cent in the audience."

X Factor's Shayne has reportedly been asked to fly to LA to record with Robbie Williams. The ex-Take That star wanted to write and record with the competition winner, but apparently Simon Cowell has not taken the news well and so has stopped the move.A source quoted in More magazine says: "Simon Cowell was not overly happy about Robbie working with Shayne so soon after the show. He worries Shayne will get too big for his boots."Louis loved the idea. He really wanted Shayne to go to LA and write with Robbie – but ultimately Simon can over-rule any decisions over Shayne’s career"Shayne was signed to Cowell's record label, BMG, after winning last year's X Factor in December.'

ITV rebrand goes for the Robbie Williams look

Quoted from: http://news.independent.co.uk

'By Ciar Byrne, Media Correspondent
Published: 10 January 2006

In its latest bid to cling on to eyeballs in the increasingly competitive television arena, ITV has unveiled a £3m rebrand that compares its flagship channel to the pop star Robbie Williams.
The old-style yellow and blue idents and celebrity endorsements, which have appeared on ITV for the past three years, have been ditched in favour of new "emotional" marketing and a colour-coded system of logos.'

Take That turn down Young´s offer to replace Williams

Quoted from: http://contactmusic.com/

'British pop star WILL YOUNG has had his offer to fill ROBBIE WILLIAMS' shoes on the upcoming TAKE THAT reunion tour turned down.
The EVERGREEN singer is looking forward to the boyband's sold out trek around the UK and fancies the idea of jumping onstage to sing hit tune RELIGHT MY FIRE.
He says, "I'd happily join Take That onstage and look after Robbie's place. That would be so much fun, we could all sing together. My favourite Take That song is Relight My Fire, so we could perform that one."
But a spokesperson for Take That says, "The band did their last big tour as a four-piece, so they don't think Robbie will really be missed this time round.
"They are really flattered by Will's comments though, and hope they can work together in the future."
Williams left Take That in 1995, a year before the group folded.

Robbie Williams' World Cup priority

Quoted from: http://music.monstersandcritics.com

'Jan 13, 2006, 13:54 GMT

Robbie Williams is so obsessed with football he's organised his European tour around the World Cup.
The pop heartthrob was so scared he'd miss the key matches of the tournament he has scheduled concerts around the games he wants to see.He is quoted in Britain's The Sun newspaper as saying: 'I love football!
'She's my wife and my mistress. She has never let me down.'
Last year, it was reported the singer was so determined to become a better footballer he enlisted the help of friend David Beckham.
The star was said to have approached the England captain, who will lead the team out at this summer's World Cup in Germany, backstage at the Live 8 charity concert, in London, and persuaded him to teach him some of his skills.
One of Beckham's friends revealed at the time: 'David and Robbie got chatting backstage after the Live 8 show.
'Becks invited Robbie to Spain, where he's promised to give him a tour of his club, Real Madrid's training ground, as well as teaching him a few skills.'
The source added: 'Robbie's already quite good at football but he's keen to learn from the expert.'

Robbie's lost without a Guy

Quoted from: http://www.thesun.co.uk/

Shock ... Robbies Brits snub'I CAN reveal that ROBBIE WILLIAMS is set to receive the biggest snub of his career. Industry insiders reckon Rob will get just ONE paltry nomination for this year's Brit Awards. That's right, the King of the Brits has finally had his crown taken away. In previous years the ego on legs was a dead cert to be nominated in the Best Single, Album, Male and Pop categories. But since he dropped his writing partner GUY CHAMBERS in 2003, we have not heard a single outstanding anthem from the Robster. He holds the record for winning Brits - a whopping 14 sit on his mantelpiece.
Solution ... after Rob's rocky yearLast year he even picked up a special award for the best single of the last 25 years for Angels. But because Robbie's latest album Intensive Care had little impact on the industry, I've been told he will only manage a nomination for Best Male this time round. And he's not even favourite for that. The snub is a massive kick in the teeth for Robbie. Some say he became far too cocky when he wiped the floor in 2001, scooping Best Male, Single and Video.
He also criticised the voting system - and it seems the judges haven't forgotten. I have to agree that Intensive Care was average. It may have reached No1 but its lack of staying power proved it was no classic. And last month even the Crazy Frog managed to beat Robbie in the singles chart when Advertising Space only got to No8. The final nominations for the Earls Court bash on February 15 will be revealed tomorrow night at the launch party in West London. My predictions for the nominations are in today's Sun newspaper. I reckon the stars of this year's show will be MADONNA and COLDPLAY.
Madge's album Confessions On The Dancefloor was undoubtedly one of her greatest yet - and one of the best of 2005. And after seeing Coldplay's outstanding performance before Christmas at Earls Court, I think they deserve to wipe the board with X&Y. Posh boy JAMES BLUNT should scoop awards after he rocked the charts with his top-selling debut album Back To Bedlam. But, like everyone else, I'll just have to wait for Brits presenter CHRIS EVANS to reveal all on the night to see if I'm right. As for Rob, I only have this one piece of advice - it's time to call Guy and tell him all is forgiven. The leggy beauty, 35, is renowned for her fiery temper, but she has learned to rise above problems after taking some simple advice from the ANGELS hitmaker.
She says, "I won't let people push my buttons, I just want to walk away.
"It's taken me God knows how many years. Robbie Williams told me, 'Always put your headphones on.'
"It's a good little trick, play music, phase it out. That's not to say I don't have wonderful people in my life who can give me criticism. I don't phase that out.
"But if somebody I trust says lay low, I will."

Robbie Williams finds love again

Quoted from: http://www.newkerala.com/

'London : British singer Robbie Williams seems to have found love once again, this time in the arms of sexy MTV presenter Emma Griffiths. The two have reportedly been a couple ever since they met at the MTV Awards in November last year. Emma is said to have recently revealed the relationship to friends, and has even told them it had not taken a long time for things to heat up between her and the star. 'We met when he arrived in Portugal for the awards. I fancied him and it didn't take long for things to happen. He was lovely such a polite man and I was even starstruck which is unlike me. We decided to go back to the hotel together,' News of the World quoted her, as saying. According to a source, the sexy presenter is now keeping her fingers crossed that instant attraction turns into a more meaningful; relationship. 'Emma can't wait to see him again, and Robbie seems keen too. She knows there is distance between them but she has her fingers crossed that it might work out,' the source said. '

Robbie Williams still top of Euro chart crest

Quoted from: http://music.monstersandcritics.com/

By Paul Sexton Jan 5, 2006, 20:00 GMT

Robbie Williams' 'Intensive Care' (Chrysalis) starts 2006 as it ended 2005, at No. 1 on Billboard's pan-European Top 100 Albums survey. That's the sixth aggregate week atop the chart for Williams' sixth studio album, which holds at No. 1 in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The album also stays at No. 2 in Holland and climbs from 3 to 2 in Italy and from 7 to 5 in Portugal.
In the United Kingdom, the album slides from 3 to 8 on the first chart of the new year. However, Williams' 'Greatest Hits' set, which was the No. 5 album of 2005 on the year-end pan-European compilation, makes a big comeback there. After heavy discounting in retailers' post-Christmas U.K. sales, the retrospective rebounds from 68 to 5 in its 31st U.K. chart week, prompting a 65-11 improvement on Top 100 Albums. Total U.K. sales of the set are now 1.8 million units, according to compilers the Official U.K. Charts Co.
Madonna's 'Confessions on a Dance Floor' (Warner Bros.) holds at No. 2 on Top 100 Albums, its highest individual ranking No. 2 in Switzerland. James Blunt's 'Back To Bedlam' (Atlantic) is No. 3 again overall, and holds at No. 2 in the United Kingdom, where it yields another top ten hit as 'Goodbye My Lover' climbs from 11 to 9. 'Goodbye' climbs from 32 to 9 on Eurochart Hot 100 Singles.
Moving forcefully into the upper echelon of the aggregate album survey, from 17 to 8, is Kelly Clarkson's 'Breakaway' (RCA). That's the first time the album has reached the top ten, having previously spent two weeks at No. 14 in November. In the United Kingdom, 'Breakaway' is up from No. 8 to a new peak of No. 3 in its 24th chart week. It climbs from 3 to 2 in Ireland.
Also figuring in the higher reaches of Top 100 Albums for the first time after renewed success in the United Kingdom is 'Stars of CCTV' (Necessary/Atlantic) by London rock band Hard-Fi, which debuts at No. 15 overall. 'Stars' benefits fromm a 33 to 4 rise in Britain. Again, the improvement is brought about by heavy discounting at retail, and a further boost from the release of another single from the album, 'Cash Machine,' which hits the U.K. chart at No. 14.
Madonna's 'Hung Up' moves into its eighth week at the helm of the Eurochart. It's still No. 1 in Germany and Italy and now adds two more European titles, rising from 16 to 1 in France and from 3 to 1 in Spain. 'Sorry' is planned as the follow-up single from the 'Confessions' album.
Black Eyed Peas enjoy a strong week in Europe, in the wake of the band`s live dates in the region. The single 'My Humps' (A&M/Interscope) is up from 6 to 2 on the Eurochart, matching its late November peak; the track is No. 2 in both Ireland and Switzerland, jumps from 9 to 6 in Germany and moves back into the U.K. top ten, from 13 to 7. The album 'Monkey Business,' which has IFPI Platinum Europe certification for region-wide shipments of one million copies, is back up from 18 to 13 on Top 100 Albums.
Amid a number of other established singles enjoying new sales hikes at the turn of the year, the emerging contender for the Eurochart chart crown is Mattafix' 'Big City Life' (Buddhist Punk). The two members of the group hail from London but have an international heritage including India, St. Vincent and the Grenadines. The track has been building steadily around Europe since November and now climbs from 10 to 5 on the Eurochart. It rises from 2 to 1 in Austria and Switzerland, from 5 to 4 in Germany and holds at No. 2 in Italy.

Williams considers career as comedian

Quoted from: http://contactmusic.com

'Pop superstar ROBBIE WILLIAMS is tempted to ditch his lucrative music career to follow in his father PETE CONWAY's footsteps by becoming a stand-up comedian.
The TRIPPING singer is often left dazed mid-performance when he thinks about his phenomenal success, and would feel more comfortable cracking jokes instead.
He tells German newspaper Die Zeit, "My father was a stand-up comedian for years. Maybe one day I will do that, too.
"Sometimes I'm onstage and singing suddenly disturbs me and I want to talk to the audience. Instead, I want to make them laugh."

Williams dismissed depression reports

Quoted from: http://www.contactmusic.com

'ROBBIE WILLIAMS has rubbished his media image as a depressive who finds it difficult to enjoy life, insisting he is actually a happy-go-lucky guy.
The FEEL singer, who remains single, has watched his reputation for self-pity steadily grow since he left British boyband TAKE THAT in 1995, but refuses to let it worry him.
He tells German newspaper Die Zeit, "I am surprised about what the public thinks of me.
"They say again and again that I am a highly depressive guy who can hardly get out of bed for the next day. Bulls**t.
"But that seems to fit them well. Like, he may be the famous entertainer Robbie Williams, but he can't enjoy his life. He can't be happy. He is depressive, a terrible person; he can't sing and is certainly gay."

Take That want body doubles

Quoted from: http://contactmusic.com

'Aging boy band TAKE THAT are hoping to enlist body doubles for their reunion tour, because they think they're too old and out of shape to prance on stage in skimpy outfits.
GARY BARLOW, MARK OWEN, JASON ORANGE and HOWARD DONALD, who reunited last November (05) without ROBBIE WILLIAMS, have a string of gigs lined up for 2006, but are dreading getting into shape.
Owen says, "I was hoping we could hire body doubles and hire actors to come on and do all the routines.
"JULIA ROBERTS has a bum double, so maybe I can get one too, then I can wear the chaps again."

Review of the year: Pop

Quoted from: http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/

'A year of vocal tics and indie licks from Gorillaz and Hal to Kaiser Chiefs and Ry Cooder
By Andy Gill
03 January 2006

On one level, 2005 was the year that public taste became defined by a catch in the throat. As employed wholesale by both James Blunt and Coldplay, this one vocal tic managed to dominate the album sales chart for much of the past 12 months.
In each year, there are just a few albums that catch the public mood and become mainstays of the charts. This year's mood seemed to be set by Michael Parkinson, with Katie Melua, David Gray, Jamie Cullum and Robbie Williams joining Blunt and Coldplay as chart fixtures, with the increasingly horsey Madonna doubtless cantering up on the rails following her solo audience with the wrinkled chat-show host.
The other big seller came from the undisputed band of the year, Kaiser Chiefs, whose Employment boasted the wall-to-wall singalong hooks that soundtracked the year, as well as being the advance guard for a great year of homegrown indie-pop from the likes of The Magic Numbers, The Coral, British Sea Power, Goldfrapp and Hal.
By Mercury Prize time, however, the Kaisers were so ubiquitous that the judges opted for the novelty of the androgynously-voiced Antony & The Johnsons - thus ensuring that the Chiefs managed to dodge the career-killing Mercury bullet. Whether Antony's charms endure for a second album remains to be seen; certainly, despite a massive promotional push, the follow-up album from previous winner Ms Dynamite failed to ignite much interest. Can Robbie Williams be allowed to win next year, please?
Outside the more corporate territory, however, 2005 was a vintage year for rock and pop, with quite the best haul of quality music for a decade or two. Where my annual compilations usually take up two or three CDs, this year's couldn't be squeezed on to four, and whatever your favoured genre, there was plenty to satisfy the most ferocious of appetites. In the wake of The Libertines, there was abrasive new punk-pop from the likes of The Dead 60s, The Others, The Ordinary Boys and the huge homemade successes of Hard-Fi and Arctic Monkeys. Late on in the year, Babyshambles finally delivered on a little of Pete Doherty's non-pharmaceutical reputation with their debut album.
On the urban front there were excellent albums from Common and Kanye West, while the growing maturity of UK hip-hop glimpsed on several compilations was affirmed by striking releases from Roots Manuva and The Mitchell Brothers. And if folk-rock is your thing, there was a bumper crop of acoustic creativity from Devendra Banhart, Laura Veirs, José Gonzalez, Espers, King Creosote, Tunng, Willy Mason and Bright Eyes - the last became one of two acts (Ryan Adams was the other) to release three albums in a single year. Elsewhere, a new strain of psychedelic prog-pop became improbably fashionable again, courtesy of Sigur Ros, Viva Voce and especially Arcade Fire, whose Funerals wound up high on many magazines' best-of-year lists.
My choice for album of the year would be a toss-up between Ry Cooder's Chavez Ravine and Sufjan Stevens' Illinoise, both intelligent, large-scale explorations of American psycho-geographical themes. Along with splendid new works such as Gorillaz' Demon Days and Kate Bush's Aerial, they established 2005 as the year that the concept album returned to pop with a vengeance.
This wasn't the only way the clock seemed to have been turned back to the Seventies. Reunions and revivals littered the year: Cream returned to the Royal Albert Hall, scene of their farewell concert three or four decades earlier, for a get-together prompted by Ginger Baker's medical bills; Pink Floyd confronted the unthinkable and reunified for a literally show-stopping finale to the otherwise mostly tedious Live8 concert in Hyde Park; the Stones celebrated Charlie's new-found lease on life with another tour and their best album for ages, a feat Paul McCartney and Stevie Wonder failed to emulate.
Further evidence of the old hands' renewed grip on their careers came from Brian Wilson, whose Glastonbury performance, watched by reportedly the largest Glasto audience ever for a single act, made a fitting Sunday-afternoon finale to an event otherwise dominated by a White Stripes show of breathtaking audacity, from the beautiful, co-ordinated set design to their devastating cover of Son House's "Death Letter". And virtually the whole of September was turned over to pop's venerable bard Bob Dylan, with Martin Scorsese's No Direction Home documentary accompanied by all manner of DVD, CD and book releases.
On the business front, despite the huge success of iTunes, the record industry continued its paranoid struggle with the demon of file-sharing, persecuting children for illegal downloads and treating staff, journalists and purchasers alike as potential pirates. Record companies' protestations that these measures were being taken to somehow "save" music were revealed as bogus by their willingness to continue favouring larger corporate retail clients with the kind of advantageous pricing deals that will ultimately kill off small independent retailers, traditionally the lifeblood of a healthy, diverse music industry. Pretty soon, it'll just be Madonna and Robbie at Tesco, and tough luck if you want something a little more outre.

Lennon beats Beatles in song poll

Lennon died aged 40, having found fame as a Beatle and solo artistJohn Lennon's Imagine has beaten two Beatles numbers to top a radio poll for the UK's favourite song.
Voters placed Imagine higher than The Beatles' Hey Jude and Let it Be, which were in second and third place in the Virgin Radio poll of 7,000 listeners.
Fourth on the list were U2 with One and Robbie Williams' Angels was next.
The Beatles had 33 entries in the top 500 songs, followed by the Rolling Stones with 17 and U2 with 15. David Bowie and Queen had 14 entries each.
THE POLL'S TOP 10 SONGS

1. Imagine - John Lennon
2. Hey Jude - Beatles
3. Let It Be - Beatles
4. One - U2
5. Angels - Robbie Williams
6. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
7. Stairway to Heaven - Led Zeppelin
8. Every Breath You Take - The Police
9. Hotel California - The Eagles
10. You're Beautiful - James Blunt
James Blunt was the highest-placed debut act, with his chart-topping single You're Beautiful in at number 10, while Blondie had eight entries in the top 500 and Keane had four.
Virgin Radio's Ben Jones, who will play out the top 10, said it was apt that Lennon topped the poll in the year of the 25th anniversary of his death.
"His writing, especially with Paul McCartney, is possibly the country's greatest ever musical export and he clearly still holds a special place in the nation's heart," he said. '
