British band The Wire Daisies and platinum selling South African local band, Freshlyground have been chosen as support acts on the Robbie Williams tour next month, Big Concerts announced today.
"Tickets to the Cape Town and Pretoria legs of the tour were sold-out within five hours of going on sale, breaking all records imaginable," said spokeswoman Lara Cohen. Tickets in every country on Williams' upcoming world-tour had been sold-out within a few hours, earning him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records, she said. The South African-leg of tour starts at the ABSA Stadium in Durban on April 10, moving to the Green Point Stadium in Cape Town on April 13, and to the Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Pretoria on April 17. The four-piece Wire Daisies combine their love of old-school singer-song writing with the energy of modern British rock, said Cohen. Their debut album "Just Another Day" went to number one on the French and British iTunes charts, with "Everyman" hitting a weekly radio audience of 11 million people. "Their superbly crafted songs perfectly catch the sound of this year's hot summer nights," she said. Freshlyground's seven musicians from South Africa, Mozambique and Zimbabwe captured South African audiences with the catchy hit "Doo Be Doo". Aside from performing in major music festivals they were also asked to play before President Thabo Mbeki at the opening of Parliament on the eve of the celebrations of 10 years of democracy.
