DREAMS will come true for two lucky young Manchester Evening News readers tonight as they lead the teams out for the Soccer Aid spectacular at Old Trafford.
Soccer-mad Cameron Pugh, nine, and star-struck Lakeisha Bradbury, eight, won the chance to be mascots for the England team, captained by singer Robbie Williams, and the Rest of the World, led by chef Gordon Ramsay, in an M.E.N. competition three weeks ago.
Lakeisha, from Knutsford, will hold Robbie's hand in leading out the home team, featuring legends Paul Gascoigne and John Barnes, in front of the 70,000 capacity crowd.
Celebrities
She said: "I'm really, really excited, and I don't think I'll be scared at all.
"I'm more looking forward to meeting celebrities than the football.
"My mum and even my grandma say they're really jealous that I'll get to meet Robbie, but I'd like to see TV presenter Ben Shepherd, too."
United fan Cameron, from Denton, will join TV star Ramsay at the head of the Rest of the World side, featuring legends Diego Maradona, Gianfranco Zola and ex-Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel.
'Excited'
Mum Christine said Cameron had been soccer-mad since he could walk.
The youngster said: "I really didn't mind what team I got, but mum really wanted me to hold Robbie Williams' hand.
"I'm just excited to meet such great players, and all my friends have said how much they wish they could do it."
The sell-out match is the brainchild of UNICEF ambassador Robbie, with all proceeds going to the international children's charity.
Some of the country's most recognisable faces were joining the footballing legends.
Coronation Street's Bradley Walsh and Shameless's Dean Lennox Kelly are turning out for England.
The Rest of the World will feature ex-racing driver Eddie Irvine and former Westlife singer Brian McFadden.
Injury
Bookmakers William Hill have made England the slight favourites at 5-4, with the Rest of the World at 13-10.
The Rest of the World, who suffered a 7-0 drubbing against Scotland All Stars on Tuesday, have been plagued with injury, with defender Ramsay and striker McFadden notable casualties.
But a team insider said both are expected to play at least some of tonight's match.
"The Rest of the World were looking pretty distraught earlier this week after their loss, but Maradona has now flown in, so who knows what could happen," he said.
* Live coverage of the pre-match preparations begins at 6.30pm on ITV1, with kick off at 7.15pm.'
