Cape Town - The news report that Robbie Williams is refusing to meet former president Nelson Mandela, made by Afrikaans Sunday newspaper the Rapport and online publisher News24, is factually incorrect, Big Concerts said in a statement on Monday evening.
Both publications reported that Williams had requested "soft toilet paper, soccer in Soweto, four ashtrays, four packets of cigarettes, two full-length mirrors in which he can admire himself, but that the star didn't want to meet the world's biggest icon, former president Nelson Mandela".
Big Concerts said the information regarding Mandela was incorrect.
"It resulted from an enquiry posed to Big Concerts' marketing manager, Michael Anetakis, by a journalist as to whether or not Robbie Williams had requested that Big Concerts arrange such a meeting.
"Michael's response was 'no, he has not made the request, but should the request be made, we would then contact Madiba's office'", Big Concerts says.
"In other words, Robbie Williams has not requested to meet with Nelson Mandela, but he is also not refusing to meet with him.
"At this time, we can confirm that there have been no requests from Robbie Williams to meet with Madiba, nor from Madiba to meet with Robbie Williams", Big Concerts says.
