Potteries superstar Robbie Williams is backing the campaign to help eight-year-old Simon Nicholson and other autism sufferers like him get the support they need. Robbie, a long time supporter of the North Staffordshire Asperger and Autism Association (NSAAA), has been keeping a close eye on the fight for better services for people with autism.
Since The Sentinel launched its Sign Up For Simon campaign, in conjunction with the NSAAA, more than 1,000 people have added their names to the petition calling for better services and support.
Simon, a regular at the NSAAA's base in Newcastle with his mum Diane, is one of more than 1,000 Staffordshire youngsters who have the behavioural condition autism.
The NSAAA was only launched thanks to a £60,000 grant from Robbie's Give It Sum fund and his mother Jan is a patron of the charity. Although now based in Los Angeles, Robbie has a keen interest in the NSAAA and what is happening to support autism sufferers in his home county.
Jan said: "I talk to Robert about the NSAAA and autism in North Staffordshire and he keeps a close eye on what is going on."He's very pleased with the success the NSAAA has had, he has watched it since it was first formed."I feel very privileged to be involved." '
