Oasis say Rivers Cuomo "Like Yoda," wish they could've played Live 8 to humiliate Robbie Williams

Quoted from: http://www.chartattack.com

Surly rockers Oasis have an unlikely new adversary — Auburn, New York heavy metal band Manowar. That's what happens when you stop singer Liam Gallagher in mid-brag about how Oasis are "like, the loudest band in the fucking world onstage" and tell him that the Guinness Book Of World Records instead favours Manowar. "But they're loud and shit though, aren't they? They're just shit," Gallagher says emphatically. Seated beside him, bassist Andy Bell is somewhat perplexed. "Who are they anyway?" Bell asks. "Heavy metal?" "Fuck Manowar," interjects Gallagher decisively. There's a pause as Liam's insult sinks in. Then Bell replies dryly, "That was a good point anyway. A bit blunt of you, but well made." Equally blunt and well-made is the newest Oasis record, Don't Believe The Truth. It's a decided return to form after the disappointment of 2002's Heathen Chemistry. But that's all information a listener will be able to glean for themselves. When presented with an opportunity to chat up one of the battling Gallaghers there's more important things to discuss. Like Weezer. "Yeah, we met [Weezer]," says Gallagher. "I like 'em. They're one of those bands you see on TV and go, 'I just like 'em.' I think they're pretty alright." Gallagher saves his highest praise for Weezer's frontman Rivers Cuomo. "Very strange man, him," says a bemused Gallagher. "He's my new favourite rock star. He freaked me out. "He's just the total opposite to me, man. He's just very timid. He's like Yoda or something. But I respect that. He's a top man. There's totally a place for him. He's like the Andy Warhol of fucking music, that's what I think." There won't, however, be a place for Oasis at the big London, U.K. edition of the Live 8 festival on July 2. According to Liam, it's not because they didn't want to though. They were already booked for a sold out gig at the City Of Manchester Stadium. "If we were free we'd be there man," says Gallagher. "And I am a bit disappointed, but that's life man. Our shows were booked. And I had a word with management the other day, and I said 'Look, I feel a bit guilty.' Everyone's down there doing all this, know what I mean? We're down the road doing our thing. A little bit of guilt kicked in. I thought maybe we should fucking book... then it's 60,000 kids disappointed. "But if we weren't doing a gig that day we'd have been there without a doubt. And I'd love to. Y'know why I'd love to do that gig? "First of all, it's fucking awareness and all that stuff," he says, before getting to the real meat of why he wanted to play. "I just love to go on and do four fucking songs and really fucking rip it up. Come in and fucking bang it with fuckin' four of your classics. And walk off. And fucking flick Robbie Williams in the eye and say 'Follow that you dick!'" '

Live 8 concert is Big and Beautiful

Quoted from: http://news.scotsman.com

'Big may be beautiful for the London’s Live 8 concert, but size comes at a price. With 150,000 music fans set to descend on Hyde Park to enjoy top acts including Sir Paul McCartney, Madonna and Robbie Williams, the event promises to be big in every sense of the word. The stage on July 2 will be as high five London double decker buses stacked on top of each other and as wide as six lined up nose to tail. Two hundred and seventy tons of steel and wood is being used to build the stage and over 30 tons of sound, lighting and video equipment will be suspended from its roof. With so many acts signing up to take part in the charity event, and the amount of equipment they will bring with them, the back stage change over area will be big enough to accommodate 29 London buses. The sound system for the event consists of over 200 speaker cabinets hung on either side of the stage. On the stage there will be three £100,000 digital mixing consoles, 48 stage fold back speaker cabinets and 24 1,500 watt amplifiers. To make use of all this power there will be over 500 microphones and 8,000 metres of microphone cable. Organisers claim Live 8’s London gig will boast the “largest concentration of screens ever used at a European outdoor concert site”, with a total of 12 giant screens covering a total area of 472 square metres. Engineers are having to slow down the videos by up to a second so it is in synch at the back stage area, given that video signals travel at 690 million mph and sound only travels at 750mph. Back stage there will be 300 temporary cabins, 20 marquees, 200 toilets and 20 showers. The infrastructure to run the site will include 300 telephones, 50 individual high speed connections and three wireless broadband systems. And don’t forget the grub. Over the three weeks it will take to build the site the crew will consume 10,000 rashers of bacon, 12,000 sausages, 18,000 eggs, 2,000 lbs of cheese, 50,000 litres of water, 5,000 apples and 8,000 bananas. At the end of it all the clean up teams will have to remove over 3,000 tons of rubbish and over 350,000 people will have attended the various events and watched over 150 bands. Seven thousand passes and wrist bands will have been issued and 1.2 billion e-mails will have been sent out relating to the logistics of the whole operation.'

Gallagher blasts 'hanger-on' Williams

Quoted from: http://www.contactmusic.com

'OASIS rocker NOEL GALLAGHER has slammed ROBBIE WILLIAMS as a parasitic hanger-on who followed the band around like a groupie. Williams latched on to frontman LIAM GALLAGHER when the WONDERWALL stars hit the height of their stardom in 1995 following the release of (WHAT'S THE STORY) MORNING GLORY, but Noel quickly became impatient with their famous fan. He recalls, "He followed us around for a year. A full fucking year of shit jokes, bad clothes and no fucking crisps left in the dressing room. "He was Liam's drinking buddy. It got on my tits in the end. "At the time of Morning Glory, he walked up to my manager and said: 'What are we doing after the gig?' "We? Well, we might be going for a curry. You might be tagging along." '

Ye wouldnt we all like to...

Quoted from: http://www.femalefirst.co.uk

'Irish band THE CORRS are so desperate to be part of the LIVE 8 concert in Edinburgh, Scotland next month (06JUL05), they would be happy if they only swept the stage. The RUNAWAY group have been bombarding LIVE AID co-founder MIDGE URE with telephone calls, even if it means helping with announced performers BONO and ROBBIE WILLIAMS' hair.Ure explains, "I've been getting calls from The Corrs begging to be involved in Edinburgh - even if it was only sweeping the stage or doing people's hair." Noel Gallagher loathes hip-hop

Quoted from: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk

'Noel Gallagher has spoken about the evils of hip-hop music. The Oasis guitarist has said that he hates the genre because of the distasteful messages it gives to fans, citing Eminem and 50 Cent as prime examples, reports FemaleFirst.co.uk. He explained: "I despise hip-hop. Loathe it. Eminem is an idiot and I find 50 Cent the most distasteful character I have ever crossed in my life. It's so negative."I'm not saying they are directly responsible, but that's how you end up with these gangs of youths stabbing people. Kids are so thick these days. They're easily influenced."On a more personal note, Noel has complained about Robbie Williams again, saying that the Angels singer "followed us around for a year. A full f*****g year of s*** jokes, bad clothes and no crisps left in the dressing room when we came off stage," reports The Mirror.'

Gossip...

Quoted from: www.fans-supreme.de

'According to my own informations, Robbie will announce (probably via his website) details about his forthcoming album, around July 15th. Around this date, he will give us the definitive title (seems to be "Intensive Care"), and the street date (october according to rumours). The name of the first single will be announced too at the same moment. So all will be clear around July 15th !

'Fantastic' Live 8 line-up grows

Quoted from: http://news.bbc.co.uk

The Corrs, Beverly Knight and jazz star Jamie Cullum are the latest acts confirmed to perform at the Live 8 concert in Edinburgh. The free gig at Murrayfield will be broadcast by the BBC across online, television and radio on 6 July, the first day of the G8 summit. About 50,000 people are expected to attend the concert which also includes Snow Patrol, Travis and Texas. Organiser Midge Ure said the line-up was "fantastic". Award-winning songwriter Guy Chambers, who has worked with Robbie Williams and Will Young, will be the concert's musical director. Lee Lodge, who was behind Robbie Williams' shows at Murrayfield and Knebworth, will be creative director.

'Amazing event'
Funnymen Peter Kay and Lenny Henry will host the gig with appearances from Annie Lennox, Womad, Sugababes, Ronan Keating and McFly. The show, which is being organised by Ure and Bob Geldof, will form the climax of a huge anti-poverty protest in Edinburgh on the day the G8 summit of world leaders begins in Gleneagles. Ure said: "Getting this team on board is fantastic. They are absolute professionals, with worldwide reputations of the highest quality - they will deliver the most amazing event at Murrayfield."

The text lottery runs until Saturday. There are 21,000 pairs of tickets available for the gig, the same day as Live 8's "million rally" in the city. A text message lottery is being run until midnight on Saturday for people wanting to attend the event. Participants in the text competition must answer a simple question, which is: Where will the Long Walk to Justice conclude on 6 July? A) Murrayfield, B) Macclesfield, C) Madrid. Entrants aged 16 and over must send the answer to 84599 before midnight on Saturday, 18 June. Entries are £1.50 plus the usual text message charge.

Freak, unique or daft antique?

'Bringing the format up to date meant the Potteries' other main export, a certain Robert Williams, featured heavily on 20th Century Roadshow. Our main source of industry may have been shipped out en masse to Indonesia, but at least we've still got a bloke who looks good in a T-shirt with the arms cut off. Robbie's mum Jan was even spotted in the queue at 20th Century Roadshow, clutching a bag of knick-knacks from the Brit Awards. "I thought let's go along," she said, "no-one will know. And now we've been rumbled."Jan should have kept a lower profile. There were Robbie obsessives in the building. One woman had a pair of his trousers that she'd won off the radio. Another had has some fag butts, retrieved from the star's hotel room, mounted in a glass case. I am sure she would have had no qualms about doing the same with his mother.'

Don't mention the Word

Quoted from: http://www.telegraph.co.uk

´There is a reason why 1 Corinthians 13 ("Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels…") is so popular in modern church weddings. The word "God" does not occur in it. Apart from that passing nod to angels, the verses have no reference to the Christian religion.
This would please certain officious public registrars, who have interpreted the rule banning "religious" content in civil marriage ceremonies to exclude the merest mention of the divine. Forget about Corinthians: even Robbie Williams's song Angels has been blacklisted. This rule now looks likely to change, with the Government considering allowing "an incidental reference to a god or deity" in civil services. If this decision allows God to squeeze back into marriage, well and good. For the mountain is no longer coming to Mohammed, as it were (there were 181,000 civil ceremonies in 2003 and only 86,000 religious ones), and perhaps it is necessary for the Church to chase after the people. However, it is not certain that putting the Word of God on a par with the pop songs and sentimental poetry that currently serve for inspiration in civil weddings will add to His glory. The value of a church service, however diminished, is the explicit avowal of a Christian commitment; the mention of God, without that, is merely "sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal".´

Melanie Brown and the Robbie Williams Spice Girl claim

Quoted from: http://www.femalefirst.co.uk/entertainment/61192004.htm

´MELANIE BROWN FUELS ROBBIE WILLIAMS SPICE GIRL RIDDLE
Ex-SPICE GIRL MELANIE BROWN insists she is not one of the four Spice Girls ROBBIE WILLIAMS claims he had sex with.
Williams famously had high profile relationships with bandmates GERI HALLIWELL and MELANIE CHISHOLM and it was presumed he had romanced Brown too - leaving VICTORIA BECKHAM or EMMA BUNTON in the frame as the fourth mystery lover. But SCARY SPICE is adamant she has never slept with Williams, despite recently being invited to stay with him for a month in his Los Angeles pad. Brown - who is promoting a new album - says, "I like him a lot, but there's nothing sexual between us - never has been. "He did say to me once though: 'Oh fuck, I've fucked the wrong Spice Girl.' I'm not sure who he was talking about when he said that though." ´

Robbie in talks to headline Live8 at Murrayfield

Quoted from: http://www.eveningtimes.co.uk

´ROBBIE WILLIAMS and Bono are in talks with Live8 promoters about headlining the Murrayfield concert on July 6. The former Take That star and the U2 frontman are already playing Live8 at London's Hyde Park on July 2 – but they want to join Texas, Travis, Annie Lennox and Sugababes at Scotland's own anti-poverty concert at the Edinburgh stadium. A source at the organisers said today Williams and Bono were keen to be at the forefront of the Scots rock festival because "the political message will be louder in Scotland". He added: "Robbie is trying to move his schedule around because he does have another appearance on July 6. "Bono is very keen too, and although U2 are on tour they don't have a gig on that date, so it's looking hopeful. "We could get a solo performance from Bono. We don't know yet, it's too early to say. "Both Bono and Robbie are very, very serious in their commitment to the campaign to end poverty in Africa." It's believed Bono could be planning a high-profile visit to Gleneagles to deliver a message to leaders of the G8 summit, which opens on July 6. The scramble for tickets to the Murrayfield gig began at 8am today. The 42,000 pairs of tickets to the star-studded gig are up for grabs in a text lottery. Ronan Keating, McFly, Snow Patrol, Dido and African artists from Peter Gabriel's Womad will also perform at the massive event. Promoters confirmed today that comedians Lenny Henry and Peter Kay will host the concert, being organised by Scots rocker Midge Ure and Bob Geldof. The gig will be the climax of Geldof's Long Walk to Justice march on Edinburgh for a massive anti-poverty protest. There is no limit to the number of times people can enter the text lottery, but calls cost £1.50 and competitors must be 16 or over. A computer will randomly select 42,000 winners to receive a pair of tickets from among those who give the correct answer to a simple question. Live8 promoters expect a huge response to the lottery for the gig, which is being called "Edinburgh 50,000 – The Final Push". The figure is a reference to the number of people who die of poverty every day, said anti-poverty campaigner Richard Curtis. The Love Actually director said: "50,000 people are dying of extreme poverty each day, and the crowd at Murrayfield represents Edinburgh, which represents the world, asking the eight men in one room at Gleneagles to begin, at last, to make poverty history." Geldof echoed Curtis' call and urged: "Join us at Murrayfield for the Final Push." All the money from the text competition will go towards funding the event, with any surplus going to an African schools building programme.´

Beckham to introduce Williams at Live 8

Quoted from: http://www.contactmusic.com

'Soccer superstar DAVID BECKHAM will take the stage at the London leg of charity event LIVE 8 - to introduce singer ROBBIE WILLIAMS. The REAL MADRID ace will make his appearance at the Hyde Park concert on 2 July (05) after being persuaded to do so by his wife, former SPICE GIRL VICTORIA BECKHAM, and Williams himself. An insider says, "Robbie said it was a shame David couldn't be involved somehow and the idea just popped into his head. "David seemed a bit nervous at first but Victoria convinced him it would be a great idea. "It won't be a long speech but he will have something important to say." Live 8 concerts will be staged in London, Berlin, Rome, Paris and Philadelphia on 2 July, and a sixth show will take place in Scotland on 6 July to coincide with the G8 summit to tackle poverty and Third World debt.'

Little Britain axed after next series

Quoted from: http://www.contactmusic.com

'British comedy sketch show LITTLE BRITAIN will be brought to a close after the upcoming third series to allow creators MATT LUCAS and DAVID WALLIAMS to concentrate on other projects. Walliams and Lucas - who begin filming for the forthcoming series this week (begs13JUN05) - have decided not to continue with a fourth series to ensure the show exits at the height of its popularity. The decision will disappoint fans of the BBC show - whose cult following has attracted celebrity guest appearances from SIR ELTON JOHN, GEORGE MICHAEL and ROBBIE WILLIAMS. Hollywood hunk GEORGE CLOONEY and veteran screen star ROBERT VAUGHN are also set for a cameo role in the next series.'

BONO and Williams to headline LIVE 8 follow-up

Quoted from: http://www.contactmusic.com

' BONO and ROBBIE WILLIAMS are set to headline this year's (05) second most eagerly anticipated music event - a follow-up to next month's (02JUL05) LIVE 8 concerts. The U2 frontman and Williams will join ANNIE LENNOX, SUGABABES and TEXAS for the follow-up show at Edinburgh's Murrayfield stadium in Scotland on 6 July 2005, four days after Live 8 is staged simultaneously in London, Paris, Berlin, Rome and Philadelphia. The Scottish Live 8 is being held on the same day as the G8 Summit meeting to persuade leaders of the eight largest industrial nations to cancel Third World debt, double the aid budget and rewrite global trade laws so developing countries can protect their economies. Live Aid co-organiser MIDGE URE says, "Edinburgh is going to be the focal point of everything. "The eyes of the world will be upon it. In Scotland that day we will hold eight men to account. "We care about the 30,000 children who die on their watch every day." '

As paparazzi push harder, stars try to push back

"LOS ANGELES - Lindsay Lohan once called the attentions of picture-hungry paparazzi "a blessing." But the 18-year-old film star adjusted her view of aggressive photographers last week after police say one of them rammed his minivan into her Mercedes on a crowded street here, and at least three others somehow arrived within seconds to shoot pictures of her distraught reaction."A line needs to be drawn in terms of getting violent," she said in an interview on Wednesday. "It was a very frightening experience."Hoping to draw that line, Lohan is joining with Cameron Diaz, Justin Timberlake and an A-list of Hollywood actors who are trying to turn the tables on the paparazzi. Spurred by the stars and their representatives, the Los Angeles police and prosecutors have opened a criminal investigation into what they describe as a new breed of photojournalists willing to flout the law, drive recklessly and even slam into celebrities' cars."

Magazine apologisies for Robbie Williams gay slur

Quoted from: http://www.femalefirst.co.uk/entertainment/58972004.htm

"BRITISH MAGAZINE APOLOGISES TO WILLIAMS FOR 'GAY' SLUR
British celebrity magazine STAR has issued an apology to ROBBIE WILLIAMS for reporting the singer is secretly gay. The publication printed a feature titled Did Robbie Have A Secret Gay Fling? last year (SEP04), claiming the ANGELS star enjoyed a sexual encounter with a man in the toilets of the legendary HACIENDA club in Manchester.Williams was later alleged to have linked up with the same man at another club nearby - with the incidents supposedly taking place during his days with 1990s boyband TAKE THAT. Star went on to imply the pop singer was keeping his illicit gay life under wraps. The glossy stated, "The article suggested that while Mr Williams had told all about his female conquests in his autobiography, he was keeping his homosexual encounters secret. "We now accept that Mr Williams was never involved in any incidents of this kind and that these allegations are untrue." Star magazine have agreed to pay "substantial damages and costs" to the aggrieved star. "

EMI banking on Coldplay success

You can read the whole article at: http://edition.cnn.com

"Increasingly, the fortunes of music labels are tied to the success or failure of one or two huge names on the roster. For Warner music, it's Madonna. For Universal Music, it's U2. For EMI, it's Coldplay and Robbie Williams. Robbie Williams once said: "I'm rich, beyond my wildest dreams!". He was responsible for the best-selling album during EMI's last financial year -- selling 6 million records. EMI is no doubt hoping "X&Y" beats that."

Beckhams team up with Robbie

Quoted from: http://www.sundaymail.co.uk

"FOOTBALL fan Robbie Williams came face to face with one of his all-time heroes yesterday - Real Madrid star David Beckham. Port Vale supporter Robbie met the midfielder and his wife Victoria as they mounted a charm offensive in Los Angeles. The Beckhams spent the day at business meetings and shopping before attending a star-studded party full of Tinseltown's top celebs, including Diana Ross and Lionel Richie. The bash was to mark the opening of Beckham's new Hollywood football academy. He already has one in London. David and Victoria were secretly whisked to the private party at the California Arts Centre in a blacked-out Jeep. Unveiling the soccer school, Becks said: 'I went to the Bobby Charlton Academy when I was young and I have always dreamed of opening my own.' Earlier, Posh made a number of appearances promoting clothes company Rock and Republic, for whom she models. She later browsed the rails at top clothes shop Fred Segals."

"Wife Victoria said was looking forward to the time when her three young sons with Beckham would be old enough to attend the academy themselves.
David Beckham got the Hollywood treatment Friday night in Beverly Hills, at a star-studded launch party for his just-announced Los Angeles branch of The David Beckham Academy soccer school. Attendees included Beckham's wife Victoria, singers Diana Ross and Robbie Williams, hockey superstar Wayne Gretsky, and actors Michael Keaton and Chris Tucker. The Academy is set to open in autumn at the Home Depot Centre in nearby Carson, Ca. A sister academy was unveiled earlier this year on the Greenwich Peninsula in East London. Becks robs all the fans

"YOU could never accuse Robbie Williams of not having enough balls when it comes to self-promotion - but it seems the fans have forgotten him. The Rock DJ singer visited old Goldenballs himself, David Beckham, at the launch of his new football academy in LA. A source told us: "Robbie and David have been friends for a long time, and David thought while he was in Los Angeles he would see Robbie - so they met at the launch." But when Robbie, 31, and the England captain thought they'd make a run for it to avoid the fans outside the academy, he found there was no need. "There were about a hundred fans waiting to catch a glimpse of David," we're told. "When they saw him they went mad. Robbie left at the same time but nobody noticed." Poor Robbie, perhaps he should take up football?"

"Few of the Live 8 stars have any real knowledge of the issues, writes John Harris - and where are all the black performers?"

"The procession, for better or worse, will be led by a motley assembly of musicians, allegedly assembled at breakneck pace from the pages of Geldof's address book. A few - Coldplay, U2, REM, Sting, Elton John - have the kind of fund-raising and campaigning background that will enable them to tumble from the stage, sit behind press conference microphones, and reiterate the requisite messages. Others are more likely to deliver a handful of hits, point at their white wristbands and then make their excuses; the likes of Joss Stone, the Stereophonics and Velvet Revolver have a variety of talents, but oratory is perhaps not among their strong points. Others will do what some pop stars always do, and shoot their mouths off regardless. I'm not sure what the eternally confused Robbie Williams has to say about the EU's agrarian trade policies, but I can't wait to hear."

Little Britains taking lessons to impersonate Robbie Williams

'Little Britain' star David Walliams is taking singing lessons so he can perfect his next impersonation - Robbie Williams. The next series of the comedy smash will feature a new character performing in Robbie's style and will be played by the 33-year-old funnyman Robbie, 31, has become great pals with David and his writing partner Matt Lucas, after appearing with the pair as part of the show's Comic Relief special. But his friendship will not save him from being sent up on the sketch show. However, according to Walliams vocal coaches, 'Fame Academy' duo David and Carrie Grant, the comedian is struggling and is singing is not yet up to scratch. A source said: "David's got a terrible voice. The raw material just isn't very good. He's taken Robbie Williams as the inspiration for the character and approached Carrie and David for two quick lessons. "But he's ended up having five - one every day this week - because his vocals are terrible."
